Applied Scientist

We are looking for a passionate and talented Applied Scientist who will collaborate with other scientists and engineers to leverage AI, Machine Learning (ML), and optimization methods to solve diverse problems in manufacturing and other industries.

As a Gaussian Applied Scientist, you will design and run experiments, develop new algorithms, and find new ways of reducing cost and maximizing performance and reliability of manufacturing systems. Besides theoretical analysis and innovation, you will work closely with seasoned scientists, engineers, and program managers to deliver your algorithms and models into real products. Your work will directly impact our customers in manufacturing lines.

Basic qualifications

  • BS/MS/PhD degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Industrial Engineering, Operational Research, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Practical experience applying machine learning to solve complex problems
  • Hands-on experience programming in Python, Matlab, R, Java, C#, C++, or other similar programming languages
  • Proficiency in algorithm and model development, model validation, and model implementation for large-scale applications
  • Experience distilling customer requirements into problem definitions, dealing with ambiguity, and competing objectives with perseverance
  • Strong communication and data presentation skills
  • Ability to develop practical solutions to complex problems
  • Preferred qualifications

  • Extensive experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment
  • Strong fundamentals in problem solving, algorithm design, and complexity analysis
  • Up-to-date understanding of industry and technology trends in the area of research
  • Contribution to Gauss Labs's Intellectual Property pools through patents and/or external publications
  • Clear understanding of business contexts for decisions made within and across groups

  • Software Engineer

    As a Gaussian Software Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the architecture, design, development and launch of some of the core software products. You will be working with other passionate and talented Software Engineers and Applied Scientists and have opportunities to learn various machine learning algorithms and gain insights around AI. You will have significant influence on our overall strategy by helping define these product features, drive the system architecture, and spearhead the best practices that enable a quality product.

A commitment to team work and strong communication skills to both business and technical partners are important requirements. Creating reliable, scalable, and high performance products requires exceptional technical expertise, a sound understanding of the fundamentals of computer science, and practical experience building large-scale systems.

    Basic qualifications

  • BS/MS/PhD degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience developing software services and an understanding of design for scalability, performance and reliability
  • Experience with a variety of modern programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, and C/C++
  • Development experience in a cloud service environment such as Amazon AWS, MS Azure, and Google Cloud Platform
  • Preferred qualifications

  • Experience developing complex software systems that have successfully been delivered to customers
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs and product strategy
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing and operations

  • Program Manager

    As a Gaussian Program Manager, you will develop and lead programs by actively interacting with our customers in manufacturing factories or other industry fields. You will support Gauss Labs' small and large scale goals and make sure that all the milestones are aligned with the goals and developers constantly meet their goals.

    If you are the ideal candidate, you must have experience working with business and technical leaders to develop and execute technical program. You will possess a strong program management background, with experience building relationships with internal and external business partners. You will lead projects involving multiple teams and communicate results to leaders and key stakeholders. You will have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about business and technical challenges with the skill set to drive tactical and strategic execution of multiple programs. The candidate will identify opportunities in manufacturing factories and other industry fields where industry AI solutions and platforms can help improve their productivity. You will sometimes have to work independently and deal with an ambiguous environment.

    You will develop and lead execution of innovative initiatives for Gauss Labs. You will measure and analyze the impact of existing and future program initiatives, and effectively communicate to key decision makers and leaders.

    Basic qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree/MS/PhD degree in business or technical field
  • Experience in corporate or public sector program management and/or consulting
  • Experience managing and analyzing program data
  • Experience leading program development from idea to execution
